This one rupee of Republic India was issued in 1964 to mark the death of the First Prime Minister of Independent India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.This coin is a copper-Nickel proof pattern rupee. The obverse of this coin depicts the portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru facing left with the legend ‘Jawaharlal Nehru’ inscribed above it and year ‘1889 to 1964’ below it. The reverse of this coin depicts the national emblem with ‘India’ and ‘Bharat’ inscribed at the top and denomination in English and Hindi inscribed at the bottom.
The portrait of the Prime Minister looks older on this coin, due to the detailed facial feature depicted. This coin was sold for INR 2, 25,000 by the Todywalla auctions.
