Tipu Sultan was the son of Hyder Ali and Fatima Fakhr Khan. They had initially named their son Fateh Khan. He was later renamed as Tipu Sultan, after the local saint Tipu Mastan Aulia. The full name of Tipu Sultan was Fateh Ali Khan Shahab.At a very young age, Tipu learned gun shooting, riding, and swordsmanship which later helped him to capture the family of Malabar chief. He also wrote a manual known as ‘Fathul Mujahidin’. In this manual, he explains and talks about the experiments he conducted for developing Mysore rockets. Tipu Sultan was killed in the fourth Anglo-Mysore war by British East India Company and Nizam of Hyderabad. After Tipu's death, British forces took away his sword and ring.
This gold Faruqi issued by Tipu Sultan weighs around 3.4g. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Huwa Muhammad As-Sultan Al-adil Sanah 1220’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Faruqi Pattan 10 Sanah’. This coin was sold for INR 27,000 at classical Numismatic Galley auction held in Delhi on 19th May 2018.
