International Day of Living Together in Peace

The devastation caused by the World Wars in the 20th century gave birth to the United Nation to save the future generations form the chaos of war. One of the main agenda and promise of this organization was to maintain international cooperation and peace.In 1997 the General Assembly proclaimed a resolution that the year 2000 as the International year of the Culture of Peace, it was the step towards sustaining the motto of living together in peace. Later on, in 1998 the period from 2001 to 2010 was declared as the decade of International cultural peace and non-violence for Children of the World.
On 8th December 2017, the United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate 16th May as the International Day of Living Together in Peace. These declarations promoted cultural peace, non-violence that benefited all humanity.
In 2017, the United Nations issued souvenir sheets on the theme of international peace to promote the peaceful co-existence and give equal rights to all, irrespective of their cast, creed, religion, sex, race, colour, political belief, nationality, etc.
