The postal library at the Correios National Museum in Brasilia is honoured on a new 1.55-real Brazilian stamp that was released on 4th May with a first-day ceremony at the museum. The stamp design includes books and postal items like mailbags, mailboxes, covers, a handstamp canceler and a circular datestamp. Various postal activities are represented through these items. The procedures for these activities are documented for consultation and studies. The stamp shows an open book along with several other books on a shelf in the background. These books represent a historical record of Brazil’s postal services.
The library established 130 years ago, in 1888, in Rio de Janeiro first, and was transferred to Brasilia almost 100 years later. It contains bibliographic documents like Collection of Decisions made by the Empire of Brazil, journals from the Universal Postal Union-UPU, Revista Telegraficica Brasileira (Brazilian Telegraphy Magazine) and Philatelic Bulletins. Some materials produced by the Post are also available for local loan.
