Coinage of Jalal Al-Din Muhammad Shah

Jalal Al-Din Muhammad Shah was a Sultan of Bengal. He ruled the Bengal Sultanate for 16 years.He issued gold and silver coins in hexagonal, round and scalloped shapes. These coins are found in various denominations viz. Tanka, double Tanka, half Tanka, hexagonal Tanka, one-eighth Tanka, quarter Tanka, ten Tanka, and scalloped Tanka.
This gold Tanka was issued during his reign. Both sides of coin inscribed with beautiful Tughra calligraphy. The obverse depicts the Arabic legend ‘Jalal al-Dunyawa al-Din Abu al-Muzaffar Muhammad Shah al-Sultan’. The reverse of the coins bore the legend ‘Khalifat Allah Nasir al-Islam wa al Muslimeen Arsah Chatganw’.
This coin was sold for INR 3,80,000 by Classical Numismatic Gallery.
