Five public auctions will be conducted by Corinphila in Zurich from 28th May to 2nd June. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

A 3¢ red revenue stamp, issued in 1857 surcharged $1 for postage use, also known as “Small Dollar” is being offered. There are two main varieties of this issue. The rarer variety with 32 known examples features the characters printed vertically on the “3 cents”. The ones with an enlarged overprint are more commonly found. Most of the examples of the rarer variant are not in a very great condition. However, the offered stamp is fresh! The stamp has a listed market value of $900,000 but it can be difficult to value the item accurately. The offered stamp has a starting bid of 300,000 Swiss francs.

The single 60-reis stamp offered at the event is the only recorded example of Brazil’s famous Bull’s-Eye first-day usage on the 1843 piece. It features a clean rimless Correio Geral da Corte datestamp of “1-8-1843”. The item has a starting bid of 15,000fr.

The rare 1854 4-penny blue lithographed error stamp with an inverted frame will be offered as well. 14 or 15 known examples exist and seven of them are a part of institutional collections. The item is offered at a starting bid of 100,000fr.
