National Technology Day

On 11th May1998, when the first five nuclear tests took place in India. Late President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was leading the Indian team of scientist to successfully test-fire of Pokhran II nuclear missile at Rajasthan’s Pokhran.From then every year on 11th May, India celebrating its National Technology Day to mark the historic feat of test firing.
On the same day also the Trishul missile was test fired successfully, and the Hansa-3, the first nationally built aircraft was test flown. These successful tests collectively prompted the then Prime Minister to declare the day as National Technology Day.
A commemorative stamp of INR3.00 was issued on the first anniversary i.e. in the year of 1999. The stamp features a glob with three orbits girdling it. In one orbit is represent the Insat-2E satellite and the Hansa aircraft, in another the Trishul Missile and in the third the wheat plant signifying the achievements of our agricultural scientists. The stamp depicts the word “Jai Vigyan” and “Technology Day” written on it.
