India - Philippines Joint Issue

Issued in Nov 2009, the beautiful Joint issue of India and Philippines was released to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between both the countries.

The stamps feature aquatic life of both the countries i.e. Gangetinc Dolphine of India and Butanding of Philippines.

The Ganges River Dolphin or Gangetic Dolphin is a freshwater dolphin that is found primarily in the Ganges and Brahmaputra Rivers and their tributaries in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. The Ganges river dolphin has been recognized by the government of India as its National Aquatic Animal.

Butanding a whale shark and the largest known extant fish species. It is a migratory creature that visits the Philippines seas during the month November and May.

The stamps issued by India on 16th Nov 2009 come with the denominations of Rs.5 for the Dolphine and Rs.20 for Butanding. The stamps are featured on a beautiful blue – green aquatic background.

The stamps of Philippine were issued on 27th Nov featuring the same animals on yellow and blue background. The stamps come with the denominations of 7 Philippine pesos each.
