Silver Rupee of King Edward VII sold for INR 5,00,000

The silver pattern proof rupee of the East India Company (EIC) issued for the Bombay Presidency from the Calcutta mint in 1901 was sold for INR 5, 00,000 by the Todywalla auction in the Shukla Day coin Fair on 21st April 2018.This silver coin depicts bare bust of King Edward VII facing right with a star below it. The legend ‘DUARDUS VII REX ET IMPERATOR’ meaning ‘Edward VII, King and Emperor'’ inscribed around it with initial ‘K.W’ incused on the truncation.
The reverse of this coin depicts a tiger with the cypher of EIC above it with the ornament and crown circle. The denomination in the world and ‘India’ with the date is inscribed around the design within the toothed border.
