International Jazz day

The unique musical art of America, Jazz was developed at the start of 20th Century. It is rooted in the African tradition. The European music had a great influence on Jazz and has evolved into various styles across the globe.In 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) commenced today 30th April as International Jazz Day. This event is celebrated by school, college, historian, artist and jazz lover all over the world. This art form promotes peace, unity and respect for human rights and dignity. It also promotes freedom of expression and reinforces the role of the youth in the society.
The United Nations Postal Administration issued postage stamps and a souvenir card to celebrate the International Jazz Day in 2014. Three mini-sheets of twelve stamps were designed by Sergio Bradat featuring the expression of Jazz with a brush.
