Coinage of Shams-Al-Din Muzaffar

Shams-Al-Din Muzaffar was the Sultan of Bengal Sultanate from 1490 to 1493 AD. He described by the Indo-Persian historians as a tyrant, whose cruelty alienated the nobles as well as his common subjects. He was killed by the rebels led by his Wazir Sayyid Husain, who succeeded him as Alauddin Husain Shah.His gold and silver coins were struck in two fractions viz. Half Tanka and Tanka from various mints such as Barbakbad, Dar Al-Darb, Fatehabad, Khairabad, Khazana, and Muhammadabad etc. these coins usually have Kalima on its obverse and reverse bears King’s name and title.
Depicted here is the gold Tanka of Shams-Al-Din Muzaffar with Persian Kalima engraved on its obverse and reverse has legend ‘Shams Al-Dunya Wa 'L Din Abu 'L Nasir Muzaffar Shah Al-Sultan Khallada Allah Mulkahu Wa Saltanahu’.
