Greenland Stamps Feature Queen Margrethe II’s Paintings

Watercolor paintings by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark are featured on the latest semipostal stamps from Greenland denominated 14 kroner+1kr. They were released on 16th April, the Queen’s birthday. The queen’s artwork is featured on stamps for the first time.Margrethe II was born on 16th April 1940 and was officially declared as the Queen on 14th January 1972. She became the first female monarch of Denmark since the 14th century. It is said that the queen loved admiring nature and also enjoyed drawing landscapes as a child. She was also known for her book illustrations, church textiles, decoupage works, embroidery, prints, and scenography. Her works are showcased not only in Denmark but all over the world.
The stamps were issued in sheets of 10 and in a souvenir sheet with six other stamps: two 2kr, two 5kr and 10kr. Two labels in the souvenir sheet depict the Queen's cypher and silhouette in gold. One of the stamps is a semipostal. The surtax collected would be donated to the Greenlandic Children’s Association, which works for underprivileged children.
