2018-04-23 Mon
The warm-blooded marsupial koala is generally found in the eastern coast of Australia. The ones found in the southern parts of Australia are different from those found in the northern parts, in terms of size and colour. Because of its low metabolic rate, it sleeps for 19 hours in a day and can live for about 20 years.Perth Mint issued 200 coins featuring this unique animal. It is struck on 2 kilos of 99.99% pure silver and is issued as legal tender. The reverse depicts a sleeping koala on a eucalyptus tree. Gumnuts, gum leaves, and gum blossoms can be seen in the background. Other inscriptions include AUSTRALIAN KOALA 2018 2 KILO 9999 SILVER and ‘P’ mintmark for Perth Mint. The obverse features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination 60 Dollars. Each coin is edge numbered from 1 to 200. Edge of the coin is reeded.
The coins are struck on concave surfaces to achieve optimum flow of metal with a High Relief Strike. The antique finish makes the coin look like an ancient artifact.
