India Post Featured Phonograph Commemorating 100th Year

Phonograph- as an antique was featured on a stamp by India Post, on the 100th year of its invention.Phonograph was invented as device to produce mechanical recording and reproduction of sound. Later it was renamed as gramophone, which became a trademark since 1887.
Invented by Thomas Edison in 1877, gramophone has now become a classic vintage item.
To honour its contribution to the music industry and to celebrate the 100th year of its invention, India Post issued a commemorative stamp worth Rs.2 in 1977.
The stamp features the photograph of the original design of the Phonograph invented by Thomas Edison.
