International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

United Nation proclaimed an International day of sport for development and Peace today, on 6th April 2013. The sport has historically played an important role in all societies in competitive, physically or to play. Sport also represents United Nations natural partnership system.In 1978, UNESCO described sport and physical education as a fundamental right for all. The right of access, to participate and to play is recognized in many international conventions. This day promotes the healthy lifestyle and emphasizes to focus on the person's overall development.
This day also marks the opening of the first modern Olympic Games in Athens, 1896. United Nations see's Sports as a powerful tool, due to its unique power to attract, mobilize and inspire. All around the globe sport is seen as a universal language, a powerful medium for peace.
One of the most famous concepts of sport is the Olympic truce, the significant tradition of ancient Greece. They gave safe passage to the sportsmen in Greece city, Olympia due to constant war. In the 1990s, this trust was reborn due to Yugoslav wars.
To promote this international event in 2016, United Nations Postal Administration issued stamp illustrating sport for peace.
