In the year 1803 CE, the East India Company’s force led by Lord Lake captured Delhi after defeating Daulat Rao Scindia in the Battle of Patparganj.The Battle of Patparganj is also known as Battle of Delhi. This battle was fought at Patparganj, the place which right across the Yamuna River. The battle was fought between British troops under General Gerard Lake, and the Marathas of Daulat Rao Scindia’s Army under French General Louis Bourquin and Wable Sardar. The Scindia's of Maratha were pretending to fight on behalf of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II and on the other hand British troops becoming the protector of the Mughal Empire because Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II had sent a secret message to General Lake to free himself from Maratha.
After this was, the administration of Delhi and its adjoining area was taken over and Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II was placed under the protection of British Army.
The obverse of this coin is inscribed with ‘Fulus Shal Alam’ with Hijri Year 1221 and ‘Sun-face’ decorated in the ‘Sin’ of Fulus. The reverse of the coin inscribed with the mint name ‘Shahjahanabad’ with regnal year 48and a lion mark, the lion mark is placed in the ‘nun’ of Shahjahanabad.
