This gold Mohur of East Indian Company (EIC) is a graceful and intrinsic designed coin issued from the Calcutta mint. This gold coin was the part of the uniform coinage of the East India Company (EIC). The original currency issue is much rare than the proof re-strike in this type.The obverse of this coin illustrates the portrait of King William IV facing right with the initials of designer ‘R.S.’ incused in the truncation. Legend ‘William IIII, King’ and date is inscribed around the bust within the toothed rim. The reverse of this coin depicts a lion facing right with a palm tree behind it. The denomination is inscribed in Roman and Persian script in exergue within the toothed rim.
Todywalla Auctions sold this about extremely fine and very rare coin for INR 6, 50,000 in Ahmadabad.
