Birth Anniversary of master Illusionist: P C Sorcar!

Protul Chandra Sorcar was a famous magician from Bengal India. He was born on 23rd February 1913 in a family of magicians.

From childhood, Sorcar found magic to be the passion of his life and he took it up as a full-time profession. He was widely considered as the one who gave the art of Indian magic a new cultural background. His magical performances readily found a strong international appeal.

He became famous in the mid-1930s and performed in several foreign countries including Japan.

Such was his fame that the Government of India had named a street in Calcutta after him “Jadusamrat P.C. Sorcar Sarani”. He was also awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India on January 26, 1964. Not only that, but he is the winner of The Sphinx (Oscar of Magic), US, 1946 and 1954 and The Royal Medallion, German Magic Circle awards also.

On 23 February 2010, Indian Post has issued an INR 5 stamp to honour him.
