Indore was a Princely State in India during the British rule. At present, it is located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Indore Princely State was a part of the Holkar State, ruled by Holkar dynasty.The Holkars were one of the most popular royalties in the history of India. The Holkars belong to the Dangar clan of Maharashtra. The Holkar dynasty was established by Malhar Rao who worked under the Peshwa of Maratha in 1721 CE. Later on, he was promoted to the post of Subedar.
This very rare Silver Mudra which was issued by Tukoji Rao II in the Saka year 1780 was sold for INR 50,000 by Todywalla Auction. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the bust of a sun in the center with Devanagari legend ‘Sri Shankaranucharya Ahlya Jayati’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as 'Mudra' written in the center and Devanagari legend ‘Holakaravatur Kaushakapura sha 1780’ around.
