Battle of Midway Remembered on Latest Release by New Zealand Mint

New Zealand Mint released the fifth coin in its "Battles that Changed History" coin series featuring Adm. Chester Nimitz who was majorly responsible for the American-led victory at the 1942 Battle of Midway.The antique finish .999 fine 1-ounce silver $2 coin for Niue highlights the naval battle between U.S. and Japanese forces. This battle is considered to be the most important one during World War II.
Adm. Chester W. Nimitz, commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet is featured in colour on the reverse. The antique, engraved background depicts the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown along with other naval ships and war-planes. The obverse features a common effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
The coin comes enclosed in an antique-looking timber box with a black velvet interior and a numbered certificate of authenticity. The box depicts a black line art illustration of the battle on an antiqued paper texture.
Earlier issues from the same series mark the Battle of Waterloo, Battle of Hastings, Battle of Trafalgar, and the Battle of Yorktown. The latter one has been sold out completely. All coins in the series have a mintage limit of 5000 pieces and can be purchased for $82 each.
