Gold Pound of King George V sold for 3 Lakhs

This gold pound of King George V was issued in 1911, it was circulated in Great Britain. These coins were issued originally as the part of the coronation proof set.The obverse of this coin depicts the portrait of King George V facing right. The continuous legend ‘GEORGIVS V DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX FID DEF IND IMP’ meaning ‘George V by the Grace of God, King of all the British territories, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India’ within the toothed rime.
The reverse of this coin depicts the portrait of St George slaying a dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci with the date in exergue within the toothed rim. This gold coin weight around 40g and made of solid 22-carat gold. Only 2812 gold coins were minted in 1911.
This coin was sold by Todywalla Auctions at INR 3, 00,000 in 2018 at Ahmadabad.
