Specialized Oldenburg and Togo stamps under British and French occupation will be offered by the Christoph Gaertner auction on 7th April at Schlosshotel Monrepos in Ludwigsburg. These stamps belong to Peter Zgonc’s collection. Other international rarities will also be offered including the postal history of Antarctica.
An unused block of four 1840 Penny Black stamps with full to large margins at all sides will be offered at a starting bid of €38,000.
Togo was earlier a German protectorate in West Africa occupied by Great Britain and France during World War I. The auction is going to offer a wide range of rare coins from Togo. Most stamps are unique or have minor print runs. These items were certified by Pascal Scheller of Paris.
French occupation’s unused 1915 5-mark carmine and black stamp with original gum will also be offered at a starting bid of €150,000. Just three stamps were printed, out of which the offered unused example is unique. The stamp comes along with a 2018 Scheller certificate and a 1960 authentication by the Philatelic Foundation.
