Gold Pagoda of Tipu Sultan Sold for INR 76,000

This beautiful gold pagoda was issued by Mysore king Tipu Sultan from the mint Khurseed Swad during the 6th year of his reign.Tipu Sultan was born in Bangalore in the year 1750; his father Hyder Ali was a military officer in the kingdom of Mysore. Tipu Sultan is as also known as Sher-e-Mysore, (Tiger of Mysore). He had made a number of administrative changes during his reign which can be seen on his coinage. He had placed AH (Anno Hijri) date on his coin which was replaced by AM (Mauludi era) in the 5th year of his reign.
This gold Pagoda was sold for INR 76,000 by Todywalla Auction held in Mumbai on 8th December 2013. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Huwa Al-Sultan Waheed al Adil Sanah 1218 with a rosette; within a circle with a row of dots’. The reverse of this is inscribed as ‘Faruqi with the initial 'He' and mint name Khwurshed-Swad Sanah 8; The Persian Letter 'He' is united to the mint name Faruqi, within a circle with a row of dots.
