Coinage of Jahandar Shah

Mirza Muiz-ud-Din Beig Muhammad Khan more commonly known as Jahandar Shah was Mughal Emperor who ruled for a brief period from 1712 to 1713 AD.Coins of Jahandar Shah are indeed not very common, but still, despite his short reign, his coins are more numerous as those of the other rulers of a similar short reign. Two varieties of coins in his name are known one with the Abul Fatah Couplet and the other of the Sahib Qiran Couplet.
This gold Mohur of Jahandar Shah was minted in 1124 AH. The obverse has a legend in Persian which read as ‘Dar Afaq Zad Sikka Chun Mehro Mah Abul Fatah Gazi Jahandar Shah’ with AH year. The reverse of the coin is inscribed with ‘Zarb Muazzamabad Sanah Ahad Julus Mainamat Manus’. This coin was sold for INR 6,50,000 by Classical Numismatic Gallery.
