500th Birth Anniversary of Italian Renaissance Artist Tintoretto Celebrated on New Coin

Italy released a new commemorative €2 coin celebrating the work of Italian Renaissance artist Tintoretto on his 500th Birth Anniversary.Tintoretto‘s real name was Jacopo Robusti and was born in Venice in 1518. He worked under Titian and was inspired by his colouring style. He mixed this with Michelangelo’s drawing style to create his unique identity. He was regarded as one of the greatest exponents or art in the Venetian school during the Italian Renaissance period. He invented Baroque art and was known for using light dramatically by adopting interesting perspective effects.
The walls and ceilings of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco feature some of his best works!
The obverse is designed by Luciana De Simoni. It shows Virgin Mary and Elizabeth embracing each other. It is a scene from a painting called Visitation which is showcased at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco.
60,500 ringed-bimetallic coins with a copper-nickel core and copper-aluminum-nickel ring will be released on 5th April. The Uncirculated version costs €16, weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters.
The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag. The reverse side shows a map of the European Union.
