Shah Jahan II sat on the Mughal throne in the year 1719 CE after succeeding his brother Rafi-ud-Darjat. Birth name of the Shah Jahan II was Rafi-ud-Daula and he was the one of the Mughal Emperor to seat on the Mughal throne with the help of Sayyid brothers, who were the King Makers in Mughal history.Shah Jahan II ruled the Mughal Empire for three months. So due to his short reign, coins issued by him are rarer. He issued coins in gold, silver, and copper. Coins which he had issued with his name ‘Rafi-ud-Daula’ are very rare.
This gold mohur was issued by him during the first year of his reign from the mint Elichpur. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Sikka Mubarak Badshah Gazi Shah Jahan with AH date 1131’ The Hijri year on the coin is not inscribed completely only last two digits of the date ‘31’ can be seen on the coin. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Julus Mainamat Manus’ with the regnal year Ahad and mint name.
