Legendary Roman Playwright Plauto on 2 Euro Italian Coin

The 2,200th death anniversary of Roman playwright Tito Maccio Plauto will be observed by circulating a commemorative €2 coin in 2016, by Italy.Popularly known as Titus Maccius Plautus (254 BC to 184 B.C), he was a Roman playwright whose comedies are the earliest Latin literary works to have survived as is, till today.
The obverse features theater masks representing two characters of his style of New Comedy, the young woman and the slave, with a construction plan of a Roman theater, the dates ‘184 B.C.’ and ‘2016’, and his name, ‘PLAUTO’ in Italian.
