Rectangular War Poster Coins by Tristan da Cunha

Considered as one of the most innovative set of coins issued in the world, these rectangular 1 crown coins minted by Tristan da Cunha are special indeed! They feature the famous allied propaganda posters of World War I and World War II.One of them has the James Montgomery Flagg’s poster “I WANT YOU FOR THE UNITED STATES ARMY” featuring Uncle Sam designed during World War I.
“THE TRUMPET CALLS”, created by Australian artist Norman Lindsey, depicts an Australian soldier blowing a trumpet with other soldiers with guns at his feet.
“WE CAN DO IT” is another American motivational poster mastered by J. Howard Miller in 1943 at the time when large number of women were entering the workforce for the first time.
“KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON” was published by the British Government in 1939 as part of a series of posters intended to be distributed in event of a wartime disaster. It was rediscovered in 2000 and has been popularly used since then.
“WERE YOU THERE THEN” was an Australian recruiting poster by Harry Weston published in 1916, featuring a woman pointing to a damaged Australian flag.
The gold-plated base metal coins are 45mm by 26mm in dimension and were issued in 2014. Queen Elizabeth is featured on the obverse.
