Jules Verne, a French novelist, poet, and playwright was born today, 8th February in 1828.

He is best known for his adventure novels and his great influence on the literary genre of science fiction, which included the novels like Around the World in Eighty Days, Voyage to the Centre of the Earth, and Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea.

Verne is the second most-translated author in the world since 1979, ranking between Agatha Christie and William Shakespeare. He is also called as the Father of Science fictions.

Jules Verne and his book themes are depicted on numerous stamps and coins from all over the world. One such miniature sheet from Liberia depicts the dinosaurs of Jules Vern’s book “Journey to the centre of the Earth”. One stamp from Monaco has the portrait of Jules Verne along with the theme of his book “From Earth to Moon”.

Perth Mint, Australia too has issued a coin which depicts the Submarine Nautilus of Jules Verne creation from the book “Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea”.
