Apollo 14 was the eighth manned mission in the United States Apollo program, and the third to land on the Moon. It was the last of the "H missions," targeted landings with two-day stays on the Moon with two moonwalks.

The Apollo 14 launched on January 31st from Kennedy. Its team consisted of Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa and Edgar Mitchell II. Shepard and Mitchell made their lunar landing on February 5th 1971. The mission collected 42.80 kilograms (94.35 lb) of Moon rocks and conducted several scientific experiments.

The astronauts spent a total of thirty three and half hours on moon out of which nine and half hours were of Extra Vehicular Activities (EVAs). While Shepard and Mitchell were on the surface, Roosa remained aboard on the “Kitty Hawk”, performing scientific experiments and photographing the Moon. Several hundred of seeds were carried by him, many of which were germinated on return, resulting in the so-called Moon trees. The crew landed in the Pacific Ocean on February 9th 1971.

Franklin mint issued a rare piece of NASA history! It is a mini coin made from silver that was carried to the moon on Apollo 14. Also commemorative silver coins and medallions were issued by NASA.

Many countries like Liberia, Fujeira, Republic of Mali and etc have issued commemorative stamps.
