Townsend’s Big-Eared Bat Featured On Palau Coin

Bats are the only mammals that are capable of true and sustained flight. To commemorate these unique creatures, Palau has issued a beautiful diamond-shaped $10 coin which features the Townsend’s big-eared bat. The coins bear the year of issue ‘2016’ on the obverse and the inscription ‘Corynorhinus townsendii on the reverse. Both faces feature multiple examples of Townsend’s big-eared bats. What makes this coin even more special is the coloured glass wing insert on the reverse along the with the colour itself.Made from .999 fine silver and a face value of $10, the coins each weigh 50 grams, measure 42 mm in diameter, and have a mintage of 999 pieces.
