Highland Mint Coin to Kick-Start Super Bowl 50 NFL Championship

Highland Mint from Melbourne will now be loved even more! Why? Because it is going to mint the coin that will be officially tossed by top teams participating in the NFL championship games at the Golden Anniversary of the Super Bowl.All eyes will be on this shiny piece of beauty which will determine who among Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos will kick off or receive the ball to start the game on 7th Feb 2016. This year will be the first to see the Super bowl logo on the heads side of the coin with the team logos on the tails. In the last 49 years, the Superbowl logo featured on the tails side of the coin. 10,000 of these beauties will be minted but only the coin with the serial number 1 will be used for the toss. A coin with the serial number, 0, is also issued and reserved to decide the kickoff when the game goes into overtime.
Apart from the Super bowl coins, Highland Mint will also mint coins commemorating the two teams. Also, the Super bowl champion will be memorialised on coins whose production will begin 30 minutes after the championship ends. The dies for both teams have been made but only the winner will be commemorated. The other die will be destroyed.
