Commemorative Coins on Lala Lajpat Rai Released

As a mark of respect to the outstanding contributions by freedom fighter and notable politician Lala Lajpat Rai, the Culture Ministry released a set of commemorative coins, on his 150th birth anniversary yesterday, January 28 2016.A commemorative coin of face value Rs. 150 and a circulation coin of Rs. 10 with the imprint of Late Lala Lajpat Rai’s portrait were released by Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma.
The Rs 150 coin is made of quaternary alloy with a diameter of 44 mm and weighs 35 grams whereas the circulation coin of Rs 10 is made of bi-metallic material with diameter of 27 mm and weighs 7.71 grams.
Since last year a number of such activities have been held to celebrate the birth anniversary of a man who worked selflessly not just for freedom but also after independence, for building a better India.
