Greenland Stamps Featured Women’s National Costume

Greenland post has issued new stamps featuring national costumes of the women of Greenland. The set of four beautiful stamps illustrates the national costume of women of Greenland which provide an insight to the traditions of the country.

Before the people of Greenland had access to fabric and beads, they used Skins of seal, polar bear, reindeer, foxes, rabbits and dogs to keep them warm in harsh climate. Today, people in Greenland have made a remarkable blend of traditional materials with modern styles and have created contemporary designs with traditional Greenlandic symbols.

These costumes are generally classified according to geographical distincion. E.g the costume of Southern region consists of polar bearskin or seal skin, where as the people from West Greenland are accustomed to embroidery and colourful clothes.

The stamps come in multiple values of 10.50, 12.00, 13.50 and 48.50 Danish krone and feature beautiful illustrations of women wearing traditional costumes and performing traditional art.
