Paris Attacks Memorialized on Historic 5-Franc Coins
2016-01-28 Thu
Dreaded memories of the terrorist attacks in Paris, last November are still fresh in everyone’s mind. As a tribute to the innocent lives that were lost in these attacks, a New York coin dealer Joe Cartonia decided to memorialize it on historic 5-franc coins, in a rather unique way.The coins have a sticker on the reverse featuring the colours of the French tri-colour flag and the three-line legend 2015 PARIS PEACE.
Louis-Oscar Roty’s famed Sower design remains visible on the obverse.
The copper-nickel 5-franc coins of this design were issued for circulation from 1970 to 1995. Cartonia made thousands of these special stickers which he later used to raise money for his favourite animal charity, he said.
