Part VII: Neoclassicism Featured on 2012 Palau Issue of Tiffany Art Series
2016-01-22 Fri
From the mid-18th century, art history has changed dramatically. Simplicity, symmetry, and geometry which define Neoclassic architecture took centre stage over the pomp and grandeur of Rococo architecture. Neoclassicism derives inspiration from Greco-Roman antiquity while finding its roots in France and Germany. The style is, essentially, and embodiment of Europe. The obverse depicts the Panthéon erected as the abbey church by Jacques-Germain Souffet while the reverse of the coin showcases the Arc de Triomphe designed by the architect Jean-François Chalgrin upon being commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 CE. The monument was completed by Jean-Nicolas Huyot and Guillame Abel Blouet in 1836 CE. What integrates this Neoclassic coin into the Tiffany Art Series is the green Tiffany glass inlaid into the window.
