Fake Canadian $5 Notes with Tape and Foil

2017-05-29 Mon

New Canadian $5 bills are made of strips of tape and foil in place of the hologram. These security features are being removed from real notes by counterfeits to make fake notes of higher denominations.

The tape replaces the clear window and the foil replaces the holograms, while the real elements are then used on fake notes of higher value. An investigation has revealed that these fake notes are found all over the country and it’s an effect of an organised crime.

Authorities have suggested that people should stop accepting a Frankenstein. They can also check for more than one security feature. Holograms on the $5 bill have Sir Wilfrid Laurier’s portrait and Parliament’s Mackenzie Tower. Small 5s are written on the panel. The holograms and security features like microprinting are also different from other bills.
