Fake Banknotes Worth Rp 600m Confiscated in Indonesia

A 50-year-old counterfeiter from Semarang, who produced fake Rp 50,000 and Rp 100,000 denomination banknotes, was arrested in Central Java. Rp 600 million worth fake banknotes were confiscated during the arrest.

Equipment like a laptop, a printer and silk-screening tools were found at a rented house on Jl. Pedurungan, Semarang. Silk-screening tools were used to make raw layers and safety ribbons for the banknotes printed on HVS papers and banknote masters.

Rp 20 million worth fake banknotes could be produced in one go. These notes were distributed through a network of criminals. They buy things from street vendors who gave change in real money. Rp 5 million of the counterfeit money was also directly exchanged for Rp 1.2 million in real banknotes.
