Matte Proof 1922 Peace, High Relief Dollar to be Auctioned

2017-04-15 Sat

Heritage auction at the Central States Numismatic Society convention in Chicago is going to offer a Matte Proof 1922 Peace, High Relief silver dollar on 27th April.

All of these coins were struck by the end of 1921 at the Philadelphia Mint. The Mint released a variety of Proof Peace dollars by lowering the relief so that the new dollars could be better produced for circulation. Three different obverse and four reverse subtypes are identified, making them unique transitional issues.

Matte Proof 1922 Peace, High Relief dollars are classified as a pattern, along with the high relief satin proofs. The obverse of the offered coin features delicate tan freckles and a small tick on the base of Liberty’s neck. The stone-gray surfaces are free from contact with a matte proof finish which is consistent.
