Silver Australian Kookaburra

2017-04-06 Thu

Sticking to the tradition, Perth Mint has come out with a new design of Kookaburra Silver proof coin. Starting from 1990 each year the mint produces Silver Proof coins honouring this native Australian bird.

Kookaburras are terrestrial tree kingfishers mostly found in Australia and New Guinea, and the Aru Islands. The iconic Australian kookaburra is also one of the world’s largest kingfishers. Kookaburras are almost exclusively carnivorous, eating mice, snakes, insects, small reptiles, and the young of other birds. They are very social and can be seen around suburban areas too, along with humid forest and the arid savannahs.

This new coin of 2017 is struck from 1 kilo of 99.9% pure silver to Proof quality. The reverse of the coin depicts two kookaburras perched on a wooden fence with the inscription “AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA” around with ‘P’ mintmark, and the 2017 year-date. The Obverse has the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin is struck in a limited edition with only 300 specimens of 1 kilo Silver Proof Kookaburras!

Isn’t it beautiful?
