2017-03-18 Sat

Out of the 62 proposed designs for five silver World War I medals, the Commission of Fine Arts selected 10 of them on 16th March. Officials concluded that the reverses should feature the symbol of the respective military branch.

The obverse of the Army coin features two soldiers; one of them is cutting barbed wires while the other aims a rifle. The reverse design depicts the latest U.S. Army eagle crest what was used in WWI. Similar recommendations were made for Navy, Air Service, Marine Corps and Coast Guards.

The mock-up designs for a palladium American Eagle bullion coin was also reviewed. The recommendations from the CCAC and the CFA will go to the new Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who will take a final call.
