2017-03-18 Sat

Kagin’s ANA auction in Orlando sold a Proof 65 1860 Coronet gold $10 eagle on 8th and 9th March for $258,500. The lower right base of the first T in STATES features a small fishhook-shaped lint mark. The coin has pale orange-peach tones. Only 50 such coins were minted, some of which were melted.

One of the 25 known 1865 Civil War issues of Coronet gold $5 half eagle graded Proof 65 was also offered. Bidders were presented different images of the coin shot from different angles to show various plus and minus points to help take a better decision.

The entire auction was unreserved and bidders did not have to bid against the consignor.
