During the course of the civil war in Malwa between two rulers, Mahmud II and his brother Muhammad II, the fort of Chanderi came under the control of Delhi Sultan Sikandar Shah Lodi of Lodi Dynasty in the year AH 921. However Muhammad II defeated his brother, and became the next king, coins struck in his name during that year are also known to be found. After the death Muhammad II, his son Ahmad became the next king. It is reported that after the death of Sikandar Shah Lodi, Ahmad did not acknowledge the sovereignty of Ibrahim Shah Lodi. As a result, Ibrahim Shah Lodi sent Miyan Husain Farmuli to recover Chanderi, and Miyan Husain Farmuli was appointed as a governor there.

Coins were issued in the name of Ibrahim Shah Lodi, with ‘Chanderi’ mint struck on them. These coins were issued in Malwa style in silver and copper. In silver, he issued half tanka and quarter tanka and in copper falus.

One such silver tanka was sold for INR 38,000 at Oswal Auction. The obverse of the coin reads as ‘Al Wathiq Bil-Malik Al-Multaji Abu’l Fath Ibrahim Shah’ and reverse of the coin read as ‘Bin Sikandar Shah Lodi Sultan Khallada Mulkahu’. This coin is extremely rare.
