2017 American Eagle palladium Coin Mock-ups

2017-03-17 Fri

On 16th March, the Commission of Fine Arts reviewed mock-up designs for a 2017 American Eagle platinum bullion coin that was created according to a special law. The first review by Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee was scheduled for 15th March but it was postponed to 21st March due to the 14th March snowstorm.

As per the new law, the obverse will feature Adolph A. Weinman’s Winged Liberty Head dime design, and the reverse should depict an eagle that he designed in 1906 for the reverse of an American Institute of Architects gold medal.

The date 2017 appears with the 17 larger and higher the 20. The designer initials AW is inscribed on the obverse. The reverse also features a statutory coinage inscription that was not used on the original medal’s design. The $25 face value appears on the reverse. Other inscriptions include the “pd” for “Palladium”, 1 OZ. Pd .9995 FINE and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The denomination and UNITED STATES of AMERICA might be raised. They might lower the relief in the rock and raise the inscriptions to increase endurance.

Bullion coins have no Mint mark. The mintage limit or release date has not yet been disclosed yet.
