2017-03-16 Thu

Canada’s 150th birthday will be celebrated by the Royal Canadian Mint with the release of many new coins and sets representing various aspects of the country. These coins went on sale from 7th March and they range from $19.95 to $34.95. The 2017 My Canada, My Inspiration Collector Card allows you to collect all five winning 2017 commemorative circulation coin designs. The set contains a coloured 25-cent coin and the coloured two-dollar design created using the unique glow-in-the-dark technology. Uncoloured 25-cent and two-dollar designs and a 50-cent coin featuring the official Canada 150 logo on the reverse, are offered in the eight-piece 2017 Uncirculated Set. The circulating My Canada, My Inspiration designs and 2017-dated classic designs come within the special 12-piece 2017 Canada 150 Circulation Collection.

150th Anniversary of Confederation 2017 Proof Silver Dollar and Fine Silver Proof Set featuring a female representation of Canada has also been released. The reverse features elements like a single feather held by the young representation of Canada. 2017 $10 Fine Silver Coin Series – Celebrating Canada’s 150th, featuring Peter Mather’s image of Aurora Borealis at McIntyre Creek in the Yukon Territory is another offering.

The Mint also released its first coin with black rhodium plating on the $20 Fine Silver Coin – Nocturnal by Nature: The Barn Owl. The ancient “splash striking” technique is used on a coin without a uniform rim of the $20 Fine Silver Coin – Ancient Canada: Ornithomimus. The design recreates the fossil image curated by Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology.

Several other coins have been released as a part of this program.
