Ayurveda, which literally means the science of life (Ayur = Life, Veda = Knowledge), is an ancient medical science which was developed in India thousands of years ago. The date of the Vedas goes back to five thousand years approximately. The ancient Vedic literature written by the sages has clearly laid out instructions to maintain health as well as fighting illness through therapies, massages, herbal medicines, diet control, and exercise.

Texts of Ayurveda describe the properties of Tulsi. It is light to digest and dries tissue secretions. It can penetrate deep tissues and has anti helminthes properties. Leaves, flowers, seeds and roots of Tulsi are used in Ayurvedic preparations.

You might have heard all these things from your Grandma… Bang on! She was always right.

Tulsi is worshiped by Hindus and is an important symbol of Hindu religion. It is a very common sight to find Tulsi Vrindavan (a special structure where tulsi is grown) in houses of Hindus. Is this because of its medicinal qualities or the Hindu God Vishnu?

India Post issued a stamp on Tulsi Plantwhich has the denomination of INR 2.

Nature has always served the mankind since the beginning of the world. As the technology grew man started deforestation for his selfish needs and ended up harming the ecosystem. With an alarming increase in environmental degradation and its adverse effect on humankind, it’s a high time to preserve our ecosystem and environment.
