Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer’s best friend and the boy about "thirteen or fourteen or along there" years old, was Twain’s sequel to his novel Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Huckleberry Finn, better known to his friends as Huck, was introduced in Adventures of Tom Sawyer and this sequel opens with “You don't know about me, without you have read a book by the name of 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'; but that ain't no matter."

Mark Twain's literary reputation rests most particularly on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and the book has been called the first (and sometimes the best) modern American novel. Twain created one of the most memorable characters in fiction. The story revolves around the book’s protagonist and hero, a resourceful, unconventional boy with an innate sense of human values, Huckleberry Finn.

The stories of Huck’s adventures flow around the raft carrying Huck and a runaway slave, down the Mississippi. This structure enabled Mark Twain to achieve a realistic portrait of American life in the 19th cent. Till date Twain remains to be an influence on many American writers and his authentic vernacular speech has revolutionized the language of American.

“Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” was first published in the United Kingdom in December 1884 and in the United States on 18th February 1885. On 23rd October 1993 a 29 cents commemorative stamp was issued by the USPS to celebrate the famously controversial–novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a masterpiece of humour, characterization, and realism.
