"It is essential that we think about our National Identity without which there is no meaning of Independence".-Deendayal Upadhyay
Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay was the key member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh today known as Bharatiya Janata Party. His thoughts and philosophies are the ideological roots and moral inspiration for BJP till date.
He was born in 1916 in Rajasthan. Deendayal was qualified enough to take teaching as a profession but his heart and dedication were working for RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh). He was a man of absolute focus and organizing capacity with shining idealism. Rashtra Dharma, Panchajanya and Swadesh were started by him. In 1951 Bharatiya Jana Sangh was established by him.
Pandit Upadhyay was all India General Secretary; his determination and quick wit impressed Dr Mookerejee who adorned Deendayal with the famous remark “If I had two Deendayals, I could transform the political face of India”.
The philosophy and thinking process of Deendayal was original and deep. His vision for Indian polity to become decentralized and economically self-reliant whose basic unit would be a village. He welcomed modern technology with open arms but wanted it to be flexible according to Indian requirements.
Deendayal passed away in 1968; to respect and celebrate the life of this son of Indian soil India Post has issued a commemorative stamp in 1978. India Post has also issued one more definative stamps in 2015.
