TECHNOLOGY- Then & Now!
2017-02-09 Thu
“We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology.” –Carl Sagan. We often hear from our parents stories of the technological gadgets that existed during their time. When Television Sets (TV’s) first came into existence only a select few could afford it and hence, everyone would gather at their house to watch serials like Mahabharata and Ramayana on Doordarshan.
Technology has become an important and irreplaceable part of our lives. Physical socialization has seized to exist and the only way we socialize is online through facebook, twitter, etc.
Australia Post released this Then and Now miniature stamp sheet of technology on 7th February, 2012 worth 3 Australian dollars. The stamp has a background image of how LED TV’s have replaced Box TV’s with four stamps on right hand side. The top left stamp depicts how Smartphone has replaced Telephone booths, bottom left stamp shows how maps, direction signs and asking locals for directions have been replaced by the GPS navigation systems. The top right stamp shows how Refrigerators have replaced ice boxes and the bottom right stamp shows how MP3 players have replaced stereo systems and gramophones.
Our complete dependency on technology will be a boon or bane only time will tell!
