2017 Blue Whale Titanium Coin
2017-01-16 Mon
Looking at the success of the 2013 Blue Whale coin by Pobjoy Mint, a 2017 Blue Titanium coin has been released by the same mint on behalf of the South Georgia and The Sandwich Islands Government.Blue whales are the largest animals on earth with a broad head, tapered body and wide, triangular flukes. An adult blue whale eats almost four tons of krill a day. They are blue underwater but on the surface, they appear to have a blue-gray colour. Millions of microorganisms reside in the skin of their underbellies, giving it a yellowish tinge. Blue whales mostly live alone or in pairs in oceans. They feed on polar waters during summers and migrate towards the Equator in winter.
Titanium reacts differently with every strike making each coin unique. The coin features a Blue Whale, her calf and a small fish just above the sea bed. The tail fin appears above the water line in front of the rising sun. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The coin is packaged specially and comes along with a certificate of authenticity. The mintage limit of the 10.00 g Titanium coin is 7,500.
